About Patches

This chunky monkey is Patches. Patches is a Yorkipoo and is 6 �%BD years old. He currently weighs 33 pounds which is more than twice what he should weigh. He was removed from his home by Animal Control due to lack of medical care. Not only was he extremely overweight, but he was also very dirty, and his hair was a matted mess. Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control got him cleaned up and shaved, but then asked if we could find a foster for him. We had his thyroid tested due to his extreme weight and found that he has very low thyroid function. He is now on medication to bring his levels up to normal which will help him lose weight. His medication only 20 cents per day. Patches is a jolly and happy soul. Even with everything he has been through he sees everything through rose colored glasses. He likes to be with people and doesn't like to be left home. He will try to go along every time you go out the door. If he does have to stay home, he will greet you with great enthusiasm when you return. He is a good passenger in the car, too. His new family will need to be dedicated to getting him down to his ideal weight. This means that his food intake will have to be controlled and he will need to stay active. Patches does like to go for walks and get excited when he sees his leash. He can build up to longer walks as he slims down. He does very well with other dogs and having another playful dog would be great for him as well. Patches is housetrained and has good house manners.
