About Mavis

Adoption Fee: $300.00
Belgian Malinois mix
Age: Young Puppy
Sex: Female

Meet Mavis This gorgeous girl is Mavis. She is a five-month old Belgian Malinois mix. Unfortunately, the older dog in the house does not like her and she was surrendered to us. Happily though, her owner will foster her until we can find her the perfect home. This way she will continue to get the attention, love and training a dog like Mavis needs to be the best dog possible. Mavis is sweet and friendly. She likes people and dogs. She may not be the best pup for those with smaller children though. She playfully chases other animals, and caution will need to be taken when introducing her to kitties and such. Mavis is an energetic puppy, athletic and very playful. She is house-trained and crate-trained. She lives mostly unrestricted in the home and does exceptionally well. She is a curious young dog. A fenced yard will be a must to keep her safe. Mavis is 38 lbs. She walks well on a leash, she is very smart. Belgian's do best in active households where they receive a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. While all dogs are different, Belgians need vigorous exercise, one to two hours a day of running, fetching, brisk walking or hiking to keep her happy. Most Belgian's, even mixes, make excellent candidates for dog sports. Mavis will enjoy continued socialization and training will keep her mind active and engaged. Mavis travels well and she enjoys adventures. She a wonderful young dog and for that perfect home she'll transition well and be a terrific companion and family dog. A dog like Mavis is a rare find. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with a current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out-of-state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship, nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://smithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are primarily owner relinquished and also rescued from local and area Animal Controls. The facility usually operates at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open. Adoptions and meet and greets are scheduled by appointment only. Complete an application and someone will be in touch just as soon as they can. An application doesn't commit you or us to an adoption, but it allows our coordinator to begin the review process.
