About Seymour

Adoption Fee: $50
Bluetick Coonhound / Beagle
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Hello, our elderly mother needs to move in and Seymour, our 60 lb. hound dog is going to freak out by this change. He is a nervous fellow and because of this, we have to make the toughest decision and rehome him. While Seymour is has never bitten anyone, he looks and sounds aggressive when it comes to strangers and we need to avoid any fear based accidents. The original rescue we got Seymour from has no room to take Seymour back, and even if they did, we don't know if that would be an ideal situation. We have tried everything to manage Seymour's high anxiety. He is on 2 types of medication and have worked with a Behaviorist at TUFTS. Training and meds have helped and he is in a good routine. That being said, he still has some guarding tendencies that concern us when bringing and elderly parent into the home. Seymour does well with his older sister Ruby who is a 10 year lab/Rottweiler, though we wouldn't suggest a smaller dog or a cat. If you could keep him out of the way safely in your home and not give him access to a main entrance this could work in a home as well. We cannot surrender him to a shelter, he could not handle that. If a home cannot be found, he will need to be humanely euthanized with us all around him. Please consider if Seymour might be a fit for your family.
