Name: Aries Gender: Female Age: 10 months Breed: embark pending (herding breed X) Weight: 40lbs Disability: deaf Dogs: yes Cats: yes Kids: yes Socialization/training: Aries came to us from a shelter in Texas where she was going to be euthanized for lack of space. When she first arrived, if was evident she hadn't experienced much good in her short life. She pancaked to the ground over every little thing, was terrified of hard wood floors, wasn't really affectionate as if she didn't know a kind hand, and didn't know anything command or house manners wise. She has really flourished in just the 2 months she's been in foster care. She LOVES other animals, both cat and dog. Even if they don't love her back. She is currently housed with 4 cats and 3 dogs, big and small. She will need a house with at least one other dog to continue to learn from. Or at least a home where they can have play dates frequently. She has already come so far and we know she will just continue to make strides. She's been on several patio trips to coffee shops and restaurants and done really well. She is working on commands like: sit, down, place, and come. She lights up when she finally learns a command and is eager to please you. She has had zero potty accidents inside the home. Doesn't get on the counters, or get into trash. She also REALLY loves kids, she seems to really light up when they're around and she loves to kiss them. Crate trained: Aries is crate trained. She goes right in and usually settles in fairly quick. I imagine in a new environment she may experience some regression for the first week or so. She has always been clean in her crate and non destructive to her blankets. She is usually crated for 6-10 hours a day and sleeps in her kennel at night. She's still young and figuring out life so I wouldn't trust her without a crate if you leave. Leash trained: Aries is leash trained and does walk extremely well on a leash with little direction needed. When she first came to us she was either all over the place or would pancake to the ground. Now she enjoys getting to go on walks and out and about. She does keep a peeled eye on her surroundings. Activity Level: Aries would be considered mid to higher energy. She is usually the last one at the dog park to give up. She is usually happy to spend time running and wrestling with dogs for as long as you and the other dog lets her. A home with another tolerant dog, who doesn't get bent out of shape over her herding breed play style, will be a must. She also gets a 10-15 minute walk 1-2x a day. Usually a physically stimulating day, leads her to zonking right out in her kennel for nap time afterwards. Fence: A fence would really be ideal for Aries but if an adopter was committed to other forms of appropriate exercise (leash walks, hiking, play dates at others yards, day care, etc.) she would be fine without one. She currently uses a 60 foot tie out at her foster home. She is respectful of all fences though. Adoption fee: $200 ***ARIES IS LOCATED IN NW OHIO AND WHILE WE DO ADOPT OUT OF STATE THE ADOPTER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PICKING UP.*** Interested families should email us at [email protected] for an application.
