Please apply for me https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HFAH/Dog (403644-DS) **Meet and greets for approved applicants must happen within 3 days or the closest weekend (for long travelers). It's in the dogs/puppies best interest to be placed into their furever homes in a timely manner. All household members must attend the meet and greet. Roxie is such a sweet and special girl. Her background is unknown, but she came to us under much duress after being at the shelter for 3 months in Kentucky. She was on the 'last chance' list, and was the very last pup on the bus after HFAH put out an SOS to save her life! She got her ticket to WI in the nick of time, and we couldn't be happier to help her and hopefully find her furever home! The good: Roxie LOVES people! She is so happy, bouncy, and butt-wiggly whenever you're around, she wants to be by your side. She is super eager to please and is learning her indoor manners and some basic commands quite easily. She likes treats, pets, and toys and is so joyful you can't help but smile! She is goofy and playful and ever so cute with her big brown eyes and brindle coat, she always seems to be grinning! She does well in the kennel, and settles down quickly. She is food motivated so treat training works well. Now, the bad: Roxie can be dog selective and reactive, especially with our female dog and first time meetings with unknown dogs. She gets too excited and takes 'rough play' a little too far. Her dog aggression seems to be triggered when she gets over stimulated. She gets this way when our cats are around and if our female dog pushes back, or when she feels the need to show dominance. For these reasons, we think she would be best as an only-dog, or with very slow introductions and wearing a muzzle until she can be trusted with the other dog. In the time she has been in our home she has improved, but we still supervise anytime she is interacting with our other female dog. She has taken well to wearing the muzzle while on walks and seems calmer when wearing it. She will need a patient person to help her focus on you and hopefully learn to obey her commands when meeting new dogs, and close supervision until she can be trusted with them. Back to the good: She really wants so badly to have stability and love. If you take away the reactivity with dogs, she truly can be the sweetest girl you'll find anywhere, and she shows no aggression with people. She is curious and affectionate, has learned a lot in such a short time, and is a perky girl who will melt your heart! She will blossom with your love and patience, and we believe she can mellow with time and would take well to counter-conditioning/ desensitization training to improve her interactions and aggression with other dogs. Please consider your situation and apply for Roxie! Be that 2nd chance she deserves- you will be rewarded with all the oodles of love and tail-wags this girl has yet to give! S
