Saguaro (1.5 years and 42 pounds) is a long-time resident with Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society who is currently in a loving foster home, where he's been getting one-on-one training. He is perfectly housebroken, sweet and respectful with his thirteen-year-old doggie roommate, and not destructive when left home alone. Though Saguaro loves people above all else, he adores dogs of all ages and sizes and would do best as a second, third, or fourth dog! Like all teenagers, he needs daily physical and especially mental exercise, but after his morning walk, he's pretty happy to play with his toys or snooze on the couch for most of the day. He is incredibly bright, and his favorite mental enrichment is short daily training sessions: so far he's of course mastered sit, is strengthening his stay (can hold even if his handler opens the front door!), understands off and leave it (harder with his ball but flawless with shoes), and is generally great at learning any new skill. Saguaro clearly has some Cattle Dog in him, as evidenced by his speckled fur, intelligence, and loyalty. Like many Cattle Dogs, he's wary of strangers, namely men, especially when they're entering his house. Saguaro wouldn't be a great fit in a home where he's constantly asked to interact with unknown guests, but his trainer and foster mom have created a protocol that allows him to warm up to new people slowly and safely. Once he feels comfortable with someone, he's sweet and playful, and he's got a great memory: on a recent check-in at the shelter, he happily greeted staff and volunteers he hadn't seen in months. Saguaro will require a bit of patience and understanding from his new family, but he'll reward you with a lifetime of love. Having difficulty posting a YouTube link for his shelter page, but please check it out for a wonderful video: https://petharbor.com/detail.asp?ID=A161925&LOCATION=SNTF&searchtype=ADOPT&start=4&nopod=1&friends=1&samaritans=1&nosuccess=0&rows=10&imght=120&imgres=Detail&tWidth=200&view=sysadm.v_sntf_adopt&nocustom=1&bgcolor=ffffff&text=4d4d4d&link=E76A47&alink=4d4d4d&vlink=E76A47&fontface=arial&fontsize=13&col_hdr_bg=BFA387&col_hdr_fg=ffffff&col_bg=ffffff&col_bg2=BFA387&col_fg=000000&miles=20&shelterlist='SNTF'&atype=&where=type_DOG&fbclid=IwAR2mpvRb3EGzGpXxAHtFvP8TeAxVYdA4MmAosjknkipmm7d_eH-XreRM1tE
