About Maggie

'Hello friends! My name is Maggie Lou AKA 'Maggie!' I was found hanging around at the local Holiday Inn in Borger, Texas. Unfortunately they wouldn't let me have a room there so I was taken to the animal shelter in Borger. Thankfully, the awesome people at Top of Texas Corgi Rescue saw me and placed me with some great foster parents. I do well with two other easy going dogs in my foster home. However, I do not like it when people or other dogs mess with my food bowl. I ended up getting sick and was diagnosed with canine distemper virus, BUT I have made a great recovery and received some great care to help me get back to normal! I'm approximately 5-6 years old and weigh 35lbs. I have loved staying with my foster parents and doggie sisters, but I'm ready to find my forever home with someone who can provide me with excellent care and love!' Maggie has survived distemper and is showing no neurological signs. As you probably know, distemper affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal and nervous system. While we can't know with certainty the extent Maggie may be affected, if at all. We know that dogs who survive can go on to lead a long, happy, comfortable life. Some fully recover with no long-term effects or signs, and other display characteristics that may last through their lifetime. Please do your own research to learn more about distemper survivors. Maggie is spayed, heartworm negative, vaccinated and will be microchipped. She needs an experienced adopter who understands how to work with resource guarding of food. We will not adopt to a home with children under 12 years old. In full disclosure, Maggie snapped when her food bowl was picked up. She seems to be potty trained but may need a refresher when she gets into a new home. She also needs a little work walking nicely on a leash. Maggie loves attention and sitting with you for cuddles.
