Dougie, A2088799 Everyone NEEDS a helping hand sometimes. Occasionally I close my eyes and imagine us as the dog loving village extending our many colored hands out to a shelter dog and pulling up the precious dog to the light. Meet stunning DOUGIE who is a five year old, neutered, 59 lb Snow Dog and has been sorely left behind in the deluge of needy dogs. This is Dougie's TWO HUNDRED AND EIGHTY EIGHTH day (that is not a typo) at East Valley, a deadly shelter in Los Angeles, SoCal!!! Dougie's LOSER 'parent' was full on busted when he claimed that this dog he brought in was a 'stray'. The shelter scanned Dougie for a microchip a couple of days later and it turns out that the person who brought Dougie in WAS the owner. And then there was radio silence from the owner. I hope that 'person' and I use that term loosely NEVER ever gets another good night's sleep again. I'm sure he DUMPED this extraordinarily nice dog because Dougie had severe, painful bilateral entropion and he didn't want to spend the money for surgery. But in mid-July a Good Samaritan paid for Dougie to go to a private hospital and have successful surgical repair of the eyes. I guess it's somewhat comforting that at least there was one kind person to balance out the horrible person. But then Dougie had to go back to the overcrowded shelter. Shelter life is so monotonous and grey except for the breaks with the volunteers who love him. And in all this time this beautiful dog with one brown eye and one blue eye and always a happy smile has seen his kennel mates get adopted or rescued or taken in the horrid back never to return!!! What must our Dougie be feeling? I do know that he has had trouble maintaining his weight in the shelter and is still considered thin. Dougie's behavior notes are absolutely fantastic but at one point he was only 48 lbs and the shelter had to schedule three times a day feeding! This is why I need to bring you his story. Every animal DESERVES to have their story told. What an unbearable tragedy it would be to allow Dougie to slip away without ever having hope of FINALLY having his own kind and happy family for a lifetime of being loved, all chance of that GONE forever!!!
