About Torben

Torben is a 9 year old, 75 pound, neutered male Dutch Shepherd mix. I think he may be mixed with Australian Shepherd, but that is only a guess. I listed him as no health concerns because he doesn't have anything long term, but he is currently recovering from an ear hematoma surgery, an eye ulcer, and hair loss/skin infection caused by fleas. All of this is being treated by myself and his veterinarian where I work. Because his skin was so bad, the doctors decided to wait on vaccinating him. His blood work is all normal and he is thankfully heartworm negative and is also negative for Lyme/Ehrlichia/Anaplasma tick borne diseases as well. He is on Bravecto flea/tick prevention currently. I plan to vaccinate him and get ProHeart this upcoming week when we get the all clear from his doctor post-surgery/infection and remove his sutures. Previous to two weeks ago, Torben was sharing a house with fourteen Pomeranians and wasn't receiving proper care. He is dog safe with the exception of during feeding times, due to the many poms trying to take his food. He is cat safe with the same exception of food. He completely ignores my cat when she hisses at him. He knows sit, shake, and lay down. He LOVES walks, car rides, fetch, treats, and has great handler focus for a dog who has never been properly trained. He would thrive in a home where he's trained on tricks and/or commands and is given plenty of exercise. From the second I met him at work, he has been incredibly trusting of me despite his intense pain level. He has never bitten or growled and has allowed me to care for his bandages and administer oral medication and eye drops daily with no issues.
