Australian Shepherd mix

Mighty Oak! 'Mighty things from small beginnings grow.'- John Dryden. Our Mighty Lil Oak is an approximately 9 month old, deaf and visually impaired, bobtailed double merle Aussie mix who will make you feel all the Feels. Foster Mama says Oak is just plain endearing: 'Confident, playful. EVERYTHING he does is C-U-T-E! ' Not hard to believe. The sunny face. His self-assured, glee-filled playtime with the Foster canine crew (which come in all shapes and sizes). His eagerness to try new things. The little sapling is ready for the world! Oak's presence exudes love- for anyone and everyone. Friends of Foster Mom are the loving lad's fan base, saying 'he is truly something special'. Oak is learning lots with Foster Mama. Sits when she holds a treat to his nose. Toys, treats and doggie bones are definite favorites. The lad likes to share and will guard his food, so best he eats in his own space. At mealtime, Oak spins with glee all the way to his designated spot, then sits for his bowl. What a good boy! Oak's independence is not at all impaired by his impairments, he's in and out the doggy door, sitting for treats, and following his routines with ease. When the family is away Oak chills in his puppy pen. When they're home, the laidback pup hangs out in the house with the whole gang. Little sprout is never too far from Foster Mama, and will go find her when he needs to touch base. Cuddles are always welcome for sweet Oak. Double merles happen 25% of the time when mom and dad are both merles. Responsible humans don't do it. The result too often are puppies that are born deaf and may also be vision impaired. Since little Mighty Mite is deaf and vision impaired, he will need doggles (doggy goggles) to protect his eyes from the sun. His Family? Well, they will have to be folks experienced with a special needs dog, or who have educated themselves and carefully contemplated the lifestyle considerations a darling special needs boy will bring. Along, of course, with the perennial joys. Oak is as smart, loving and active as any Aussie and will need the same mental, physical, and social engagement. In most circumstances, Oak will require a fully fenced yard. Kiddos 7 or 8 and up, raised to respect dog language, needs and boundaries will be besties with Oak. A laidback dog friend or two would be perfect. Kitties are unknown. Apply if you are ready and willing to teach Oak everything, and walk with him through a lifetime of learning the bounty of wonderful things the world can offer. And give lots of hugs and loads of love. Multiresidential buildings (such as apartments) are not a good fit for this pup. The best adopters give their new family member time to decompress and grow familiar with a new environment and routine. They see the importance of investing time to understand their dog and build a bond of trust and provide steady, reasonable guidance and training. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. If you have the time to give and are ready to experience all that comes with a puppy, the joys and the training, as well as the possible normal growing 'oopsies' like chewing, potty accidents, and puppy nips or nibbles, please apply with that in mind. The little bud smiles, 'I'm so excited to live life with you! Let's feel ALL the feels together.' Are you the one to help the Mighty Oak grow?
