About Tommy

Meet the handsome Tommy. Tommy is a 3-year-old Chihuahua who weighs 10 pounds. Tommy was at a shelter that was at capacity, like most shelters these days, and he needed rescued. He was very scared when he arrived after being moved from car to car in a pet carrier until he reached us here at Fur Fun Rescue. Tommy is learning to trust people again. He will need a patient adopter who is willing to give him the time to know them and bond to them. Tommy prefers to be a one-person dog. If there is more than one person in his home, he will choose one person and bark at the other person like they are an intruder. We think he would do best with a single person. Tommy does well with other small dogs but again will take a little time to trust and bond with another dog. Tommy is an independent little guy. He will play chase with another dog and sleep cuddled with another dog, but he is also fine doing his own thing. Once he had the routine figured out at his foster home, he knew exactly what to do when and started to relax. Tommy is the dog that the saying of 'let sleeping dogs lie' defines. He does not like to be disturbed when sleeping, either by a human or another dog. For this reason, he should not live with young children. His objections are a lot of bluster and no bite, but we don't want this to make a child fearful of him and other dogs. Tommy will need a physically fenced yard at his new home. He is new to leashes and taking him out to potty on a leash is not an option. He is house-trained but will need to be monitored at first as he gets used to his new home and he will always need to get out frequently. He likes to go outside and observe. He will do his business and then find a nice spot to lay down and watch the neighborhood happenings. He is a very observant dog. He will bark when he hears a new noise or someone new comes into the house. If the new person ignores him and lets him approach them when he is ready, he will stop barking pretty quickly. Tommy is a sweet dog and once you have won his trust, he will be a devoted pet. Tommy is neutered, is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and microchipped.
