About Coqueta/Coco

Adoption Fee: $350
Siberian Husky
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Coco is very sweet. She loves being petted and wags her tail the entire time her person is talking to her and petting her. She enjoys running and playing. She's completely fine on her own, displaying almost aloof behavior and an independent personality. Once she has done her own thing, she's happy to come get love. She does not jump on people and is very gentle. She has an adorable, prancy trot. Since she seems to be good with everyone in the household, she should make a really nice family pet. That being said, she resource-guards food which could create issues with young children and toddlers. With dogs she can participate in a training session with treats involved (assuming they do not get scattered on the ground) but must be fed her meals separately. Coco will generally sit when asked. When her foster mom throws a toy, she runs to it, but doesn't pick it up. She is great on leash and off leash she mostly comes when called when there are not very powerful distractions around. She is housetrained and does well staying in a kennel run in the garage when her foster mom leaves. When someone is home she barks & whines to let you know she's ready to go out. She hasn't displayed any destructive behavior and could probably do fine in an apartment as long as she gets a decent amount of exercise and mental stimulation (like sniff walks). She does great in a car; just sits in seat! She alert-barks when new people come to the home but is generally friendly with strangers. Coco's interaction with other dogs in the home is mixed. She is fine with Blanco who she lived with before and may be her son though they get problematic together when they go into pack mode. She started out okay in her foster home with the resident male dog but then began picking fights so she and Blanco can no longer be together with that dog; this may be a pattern of not accepting other dogs once she starts settling in and feeling at home. Skills and sociability - with toddlers - unknown but probably good unless there is food involved. - with young kids - same as toddlers. - with big kids - good. - with familiar dogs outside the home - unknown. - with new dogs - some good interactions, some not. - with cats - unknown. - with other animals - unknown. Coco will need a 4-5' fence or so; she paces the fence looking for a way out and if she sees an open door or gate she will take off. Her full name is Coqueta (Hispanic for 'one who flirts') but her foster mom has been calling her Coco. She arrived with Blanco on June 10, 2023. They were surrendered from the same household to a California shelter. Coco is possibly a purebred Siberian husky. We're guessing she's about 2.5-3 years old. She was spayed in June.
