About Nuggett

Jack Russell / Beagle
Age: Senior
Sex: Male

Nug is 1/2 Jack-Russell and 1/2 Beagle. Which is hilarious in and of itself as his ornery stubborn Jack side is almost always at odds with his amiable such is life Beagle side. Sometimes it's like watching the bubble in the cartoon that has the good guy on one shoulder dropping love on the bad guy on the other shoulder. He is a hoot. He was the leader of the country dog crowd. He would find the skunk and come home smelling like victory while his minions went home smelled like skunk. Now he's older and no longer lives in the country. He's LOVES CAR RIDES! Sadly, Nug was a true and critical rescue. We approximate he was around 2 when brought to me. Which would make him about 9 years old. My cousin brought him to me when he saw him tired to a tree with a girl throwing rocks at him, beating him with a stick or jamming the stick at him. She didn't kick him because it seems he almost got her when she tried. Her grandfather thought this was hilarious. My cousin asked him if he could have Nug and the man said yes. And, my cousin brought Nugget to me. It was a challenge to get Nugget to trust me. He was hostile and defensive around females. I wore him down with patience, space, love, safety, and Neese's Liver Pudding. Those black velvet paintings of dogs playing poker are real. It's what happens when they eat Neese's Liver Pudding! Actually it is a reward I use in training. Nugget has no issues with females in general. But as we all know dogs recognize a bad person well before us mere humans do. I trust him if someone concerns him. If he becomes afraid, scared, or flat out terrified his body does an adrenaline dump. His body does not slowly increase adrenaline as to match any potential reason to flee or flight. His body opens the vault and says run for the hills. So you will need to be understand and be patient. That has only happenned a few times in 7 years. Twice at the vet. We found a better vet. And, once when a Pit Bull attacked him. Nug is frankly just a laid back dude that likes to chill with Luna my other dog, pee on my tires, eat, snack, get loved on, and sleep. He's a very cool and interesting critter. If he does lead you to a skunk just watch and follow HIM. He never got skunked just the others dogs that weren't as clever as he. This past January and February I was away from my dogs taking care of my terminally ill father, and the onset of my own illness. He 'unlearned' his house training during those months. The care I had arranged for did not happen as planned. Nugget has reverted to his wolf anceastry in regards housetraining. He was housetrained for 7 years. He's smart and a refresher course will likely only be needed if he wants to cuddle next to you. Nugget currently is staying in a very large dog lot with Luna at my sister's. My health does not allow me to meet their needs much less refresher courses on going 'potty' outside. I would actually enjoy it if I could.
