Daisy is our family's first dog. She is a Miniature Australian Shepherd turning 3 in October. We love Daisy to death. We are going through family changes right now and Daisy's physical and training needs overwhelm our family capacity. We are looking for a very loving and 'knowledgable about Aussies' home and would love her to be within distance to visit and even help watch her (as much as possible). She is very active and very playful. She is very loyal. She is very obedient when she is in a calm state. She does great with familiar faces and older kids, but gets skittish and nips at young children (7 and under). She is completely fine with my children (ages 4, 8, and 10) but very nervous around their friends and young children, even those she has known all of her life. She is protective and will bark at new people and other dogs. We have been involved in positive reinforcement training for almost two years now with Daisy. She does not prefer to be petted unless she knows you very well. She needs morning exercise and attention. She prefers to be in companionship with other dogs or playful humans. She typically does not play well with smaller dogs but enjoys bigger dogs. She loves being outside and has been my hiking buddy since she was little. She will hike 5-8 miles now and still have energy the rest of the day. She is solid muscle. We try to exercise her 1-2 hours a day. She initially had severe separation anxiety and now can stay home alone for up to 6 hours. She also has reactivity in certain situations but is now able to go on walks and play off leash at our park without disturbing dogs and people around her with positive reinforcement. She is now able to have children ages 7 and above in the home without barking. Due to our family changes, young ages, and possibly moving to a very small space around a lot of strangers, Daisy is going to need a loving home she can thrive in. Daisy's physical health is great! Never had a problelm. We do give her trazadone on a daily basis to help with her anxiety/reactivity training process. We bought her from a puppy pet store so we think she may have come from more traumatic circumstances just given her high anxiety tendencies, along with her breed, temperament, and age. We dearly love Daisy and will be very selective in the adoption process.
