About Emma

Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Emma is a marvelous, unique dog. A Texas Heeler. She was an abuse rescue as a young dog, so has some anxiety issues that are known and manageable. She is very protective, alert, on point for what she considers her territory and who she is to protect. She was adopted by my sons fiance as a youngster (who was a vet tech). She worked extensively with Emma to bring about her best points. She is so very smart and knows how to read people well and many words in English and German. The couple had a job opportunity overseas and they took it. I agreed to foster her until a best rehome could be found for her. The main reason I don't adopt her as my own is I am elderly and don't quite meet her physical needs :). She adores me, but gets frustrated and very bored because she was used to a much more active lifestyle than I can offer her. She is good one on one, not with kids, absolutely fine with cats, not at all fine with other dogs. She is NOT dog social at all, even with years of working with her. Which isn't a problem for her in my setting, but it could be in a rehome if new human not aware and respectful of this trait. Since rescue years ago she has had good health and routine maintenance medical annually or as needed. She gets a brief bout of springtime skin allergy, but its easily cared for. She could use safe space to be herself in where she could use her lovely energy without encountering any other dogs. She is not suitable for apartment living as her need to use her energy would likely be stifled like here, and I have a small yard for her to own and its still not really enough. She is extremely smart and very independent. Also very loving if you've earned her trust. She is kennel trained, but I have never had to kennel her when leaving. She does not bathroom in the house or cause any damage.
