About Dove

Adoption Fee: $650
German Shepherd / Greyhound
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Dove is in very good health (vet approved!), has vaccinations up to date and amazing energy. She has a beautiful black and tan coat that tends to shed very little considering her German Shephard half! Dove needs a backyard where she can run around and would thrive with a furever family who looks forward to training her, as she has an amazing potential to learn new tricks and commands. She knows her name, sit, stay and she comes when you whistle. She has met a few people and reacts very favorably, loving the attention. We are working with Dove to help against her running toward any dogs walking with their owners, as she isn't familiar with meeting other dogs yet. With one on one introductions, she likes playing with other dogs, but as of right now she still can't handle all dogs. We found that slow and gentle introductions work best to avoid Dove pulling. Dove will want to follow anything else she can see moving like most dogs. She follows any critters to the trees where she can't climb but seems to be offended by birds the most. She has amazing house manners and takes treats very gently. She doesn't grab from the hand nor eat excess amounts of food. In fact, Dove doesn't even beg at the table if we're eating dinner! Her activity level in the house is normal but high activity once she gets going. She loves looking through the window and observing those going by. She does get zoomies at night and before she has to go out. She would sleep in bed with you if allowed and has tried to many times. She is very curious of doors left open, and will run and explore whenever she gets the chance. She is often seen sitting or lying at the front door, ready to go out. If left with nothing to do, she will get bored and find something to do. Despite this, while Dove can be mischievous by stealing something that isn't hers, she is very seldom destructive. She loves to play with her squeaky toy and we throw it around the house for her to fetch. Her very favorite thing to do is to go outside for walk though, and later to play. She has never shown any aggression, but has shown signs of fear. She is afraid of thunder and loud noises, and she will run away under the bed to hide. Dove would do best with a dog savvy family with lots of energy to train and play. We have left her for 4 hours at a time and she is fully house trained (with no mistakes in the house) and prefers to go out 3 or 4 times a day. Dove does best with a quiet and peaceful surrounding, with lots of mental stimulation.%A0We believe she could be acclimatized to cats, dogs or children, but this would take a gentle introduction as Dove can become anxious and unsure in certain situations. She has also been fostered by a couple with a 2yr old beagle and has done just fine in that household. Dove has never been confined to her crate but has a small area of the house with her crate in it where she sleeps. She does come when called but needs work if she is outside, as she is too busy exploring to come back right away. We keep a leash on her to always have control. Dove does well in a car most times but occasionally can get anxious and will find a quiet spot in your car to fall asleep in. This usually tends to be in the backseat in the foot-well where she tries to hide herself. Overall, Dove is a very loving and incredibly loyal dog with all the adventure for life, but also training that does need to be done in order for her to reach her full amazing potential. She has calmed down from her shelter life but she is still learning a whole new world and her furever family will need to the take time and guide her. She is a very bouncy and happy dog who likes all the humans she meets! She is very loving and will melt someone's heart. She is very well house-trained, and loves the outdoors. She has recently joined us for TV in the family room and she loves to sit beside her humans on the couch. She is very interested in people pleasing, and thrives on praise. Dove can sometimes come off as a Diva, like we described in the title, but don't let that fool you - she's a complete sucker for hugs and snuggles!
