About Hank

Adoption Fee: $400
Foxhound mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Our handsome Hank is a sweet soul who has a timid nature and needs a loving person to let him adapt at his own pace.%A0He would be a great addition to a multi-dog home with friendly dogs who will help him adapt to a new environment. We've been trying to piece together Hank's%A0backstory, and here's what we know for sure: He was found as a country stray in rural North Carolina woods. When Animal Control Officers found him it was a blustery day in January, and Hank had been without food, water and shelter for some time.%A0 Throughout the chaotic Rescue process, Hank has seemed shy and bewildered. He is a gentle dog, whose inner light seems extinguished by a rough life.%A0We have been thrilled with every bit of progress that Hank has made in trusting us, and acclimating to the fast paced Connecticut Rescue lifestyle. Hank appears to be an American Foxhound, and he lives up to their lovable reputation.%A0He is a large, tall dog, at a lean weight of 50 pounds. His short flat coat is red with black saddlebag markings.%A0 About 5 years old, Hank is a mellow boy who would be a great addition to a quiet home with other friendly dogs to help him settle into new surroundings. A low key single or couple with Rescue dog experience would be ideal adopters for Hank. Recent Retirees would appreciate Hank's dialed down energy level.%A0 Hank is a mild-mannered dog who requires at least one to two leisurely leash walks, so that he can meander and stop to smell the 'roses.'%A0Scent hounds are extremely easy to manage because the leisurely walk that engages their senses, provides much needed mental and physical exercise. Hank has done well with basic obedience work and would benefit greatly from ongoing training, which builds a bond with adopters, and provides additional mental stimulation. He responds well to Positive Reinforcement and Leadership techniques, seems to enjoy his training sessions, and is highly treat motivated. Hank has good house manners, and is house trained and crate trained.%A0Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings. If you are interested in Hank, please write to [email protected] or call/text Denise at 860-908-9738 for more info.
