About JOEY

Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Name: Joey Age: DOB 11/23/2018 Breed: 'Pit mix', 69 pounds Sex: Male (confirmed neutered) Location: Philadelphia PA Joey is a very handsome fellow in need of rescue/a new home. His owner is a student who travels for work and family, and is unable to afford care for him while she's away. She also feels he'd be happier living with another dog in a neighborhood that isn't as urban, as he has become overwhelmed around the busy main road. Vet Info: Joey is confirmed neutered. He is up to date with vaccines and is next due for his rabies vaccine on 6/28/2024. He is confirmed heartworm negative per his vet's office, and they also noted he's a 'sweet dog!' Joey has had a double enucleation and is completely blind. Dog Info: Joey is an indoor dog with run of the house. He is housebroken and somewhat leash trained. His owner gave us more details: 'He has actually lost a lot of that training since my ex left the picture, so I probably wouldn't advertise him as leash trained. He is generally well behaved on walks but he does sometimes pull if there is food on the street'. Joey knows several commands including Sit, Down, Wait, Stay, OK, No, and Treat! He's a friendly fellow and is good with people of all ages, male and female dogs, and cats. He is not possessive of toys, treats, or food and has never shown aggression. His owner added that he got bitten by another dog once, and 'all he did was cry.' His owner also gave us more information about his personality: 'He is completely blind and has had both eyes removed, but since he was born with very low vision it hasn't affected his personality at all - he's truly the sweetest, gentlest dog ever, and gets along really well with all people and animals. He is able to easily navigate the house and gets used to new houses relatively quickly (within a day or so). He doesn't really do stairs, but I have a porch with 3 stairs and he goes up and down them every day. When it's just us, he hasn't loved his walks here in Philly, and we mostly go up and down the block - I think the busy main road near us overwhelms him. When other dogs come to visit it's a different story - he totally lights up and follows the pack wherever they want to go, and will go for long walks without a problem, and is about as close to 'normal' as a blind dog can be... It takes him a few days to learn a new house but once he does he is comfortable. He is not particularly anxious in general -- very docile and sweet. Busy streets are not his favorite but he is fine if there are other dogs walking with him.' Joey is generally in good health. His owner writes, 'He takes Benadryl daily because he tends to get skin allergies when I take him off it, but with the Benadryl he has been fine. When he was a puppy he had a couple indiscriminate eating incidents and had to get surgery. He isn't a chewer though and I have not had problems with eating weird things in at least 2 years. However, I do not let him near tennis balls or corn cobs'. Joey's owner wants us to know what a sweet boy he is! 'He is truly such a sweet and easy dog. I just want him to have a happy, loving home where he can be more active and social!' Please contact [email protected] if you are interested in Joey. Please note we will ask for a vet reference. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
