About Panda Bear

Pit Bull mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet Panda Bear! This super sweet girl is a 2-year-old Pittie mix who has been tossed aside since she was a small puppy. Panda arrived at the Friends of Manchester Animal Shelter (FMAS), Manchester, NH in April 2022, but prior to being surrendered she spent the whole first year of life in a crate. She was robbed of the opportunity to socialize, train, be nurtured, and learn behavioral norms. She was never taught how to be a dog. Due to her stunted development, Panda Bear is an extremely excitable dog. She gets mouthy as she tries to ground her energy, and is heavily dosed with Trazodone as a result of her excitability. The dog that came into the shelter one year ago is not the same dog. She is beginning to shut down, and the light that once shone bright through her eyes has dimmed. However, we do see her spirit peak through when she has one-on-one time with volunteers or staff. She loves spending time with them. Panda has been working on her leash skills and training weekly with one of the volunteers, and it is helping immensely. Other volunteers have witnessed the transformation Panda undergoes when she is given proper leadership and direction - it is what she deserves! Panda also enjoys her walks, playing in the water, and drinking from the garden hose! She is a very capable dog, and we want to see her thrive outside of the stressful shelter environment. She simply CRAVES direction, and responds extremely well to training. While once weekly sessions have brought some balance to Panda's life, it is not enough. Panda requires an experienced handler who will provide a stable environment, daily routine, and consistent training. Panda is what we call 'socially illiterate,' but that does not mean she cannot live a fulfilled, balanced life in the right home, with proper leadership. She would be a great one-and-only companion, but has the potential to do well in a home with a balanced dog; but it would require slow introductions and patience. No children, no cats, and no apartments please. TRAINING SUPPORT! A fundraiser has been set up through Edie's Plan to subsidize training for Panda once she leaves the shelter (available to fosters or adopters who take her) - we would love to take her to training while she is in the shelter, but learned skills are hard to implement and maintain successfully while a dog is living in the shelter environment. We have a preferred trainer, however should this the location be too far to travel we will consider alternatives. Please do not hesitate to email questions to her advocate: [email protected] Please donate to cover her training costs here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/subsidized-training-for-panda Visit Panda's sponsor too! www.ediesplan.com Thank you! #ARKforPanda #JustSaveThem #Ediesplan #TrainingwithBria
