PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1. Butch uses a wheelchair. 2. Other pets in the home will be on a case-by-case basis. 3. Adults only in the home. **Butch is special needs and uses a wheelchair** A 9 year old male Chihuahua/ Terrier mix, Butch-or Butchie, as he's affectionately known-weighs about 14 pounds. This funny little man is the cutest couch potato (meaning he could probably shed a few pounds ). He is SMART, very food-motivated, and loves to snuggle. Butchie also loves treat toys and puzzles, and plush stuffed animals, with which he can easily entertain himself. Butch has IVDD, that rendered him paralyzed in his hind-end shortly after arriving at the rescue. He uses a wheelchair and loves running and exploring in his wheels, although he can be a grump about having them put on. He has benefited from acupuncture in the past. He wears booties to help with preventing/healing of 'road rash' typical of dogs that drag their back end which also requires more regular bathing. Butch is potty trained, but as he does not have 100% control of his bladder, often peeing when excited or upset. He does very well with other similarly-sized dogs in the home, but can be very selective and protective of his space, so other pets, including cats, should be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Butchie is crate-trained but he howls in the saddest way if you are out of sight. He is a speedy, strong guy, who is eager to be at your side. He can swivel his hips and hop like nobody's business. He also loves to dance! Butch would do best with an adopter experienced with special needs pets. He is touch-sensitive, which means he does not like to be surprised, but he gives plenty of (growly) warning and warms up easily! Due to this, Butch would probably be best in a home without children who may startle him. To request an adoption application, email [email protected] Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
