About Sophie

Applications are open for Sophie, who is a beautiful 10-month-old Frenchton (Frenchie and Boston Terrier) with one blue and one brown eye. The first 8 months of this girl's life were not happy ones. She was born a puppy mill dog and while in the care of her first owner, an elderly woman, received no training at all. When the owner passed, a family member brought her into their home. Their dog, who was not willing to share affection did not take to her and it turned into a disastrous situation which resulted in a trip to the vet ER and Sophie being kenneled almost all of the time. Every day Sophie sat in her kennel and watched while the other dog enjoyed its freedom. After realizing the situation couldn't go on, the owners surrendered Sophie to ODBTR. Sadly, her bad experience with the former household's dog has left her with behavioral issues towards any other dog, even the most submissive ones. This is not to be taken lightly and she will not simply grow out of it, so a home where she is the only dog will be considered. Since in our care, the foster family has worked on housebreaking and walking on a leash and Sophie has made great improvement. She is a high energy dog who needs multiple long walks each day to expend some of that puppy energy. She needs to be confined to a kennel or dog play yard (one she cannot jump over) when she isn't supervised by her humans. She is precocious, loves to chew paper and will go to great lengths to find some to chew if not supervised. Sophie has a strong prey drive, so no cats either in the home and because she will give chase to anything, e.g., squirrels, birds, etc., a secure fenced yard is a must. Sophie is great with children who are respectful and old enough to withstand her puppy energy. Sophie loves a car ride and does well in a seat belt harness. With continued training from an experienced dog owner, she will grow to be a well adjusted dog and make someone a wonderful and loving companion. Sophie is located in Kearneysville, WV.
