About River

Over the RIVER and through the woods, meet this bulldog who is oh-so-good! Meet River! She is a two-year old purebred American Bulldog located at Rehoboth Animal Shelter in Rehoboth, MA. She has grown in confidence thanks to the caring volunteers who have taken this lady beefcake under their wings. They say she is a happy dog who likes to please. Just an 85-pound love bug! River enjoys car rides and playing outdoors in the paddock area. We're unsure of her experience with cats. The staff cannot properly dog-test River, though she can be iffy with some. She'll need slow introductions to any animal, but she is probably best being the only pet in the home. River has been checked out by a veterinarian, is spayed, takes heartworm preventative, and is up-to-date on shots. She is house-trained, too. She is working on her leash skills, but needs more work. River and her new pet parent should attend a basic obedience training. In her previous life, River probably didn't have much exposure to experiences. At first, she is leery with new people and situations, but soon you'll see how human friendly she really is. She is especially good with women and older children, but has recently grown more comfortable around men. She's a curious dog, but is still easily startled by unexpected things and needs to take things slowly. However, she is doing surprisingly well amid the bustle of current shelter renovations. River was surrendered to the shelter because of an unfortunate incident she was placed in. River had just had puppies when extended family members and their chihuahua moved in. They tried to keep the dogs away, but the chi escaped the room and an encounter ensued. The chi needed medical attention but is fine now. It's possible River was still hormonal. Prior to that, she had no bite history for either animals or humans. Her team of advocates have come to know and love her. She is a really nice girl with a good personality.
