About Wendy

Adoption Fee: $500.00
Pomeranian
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

WENDY is a 7 year old, 9 pound gorgeous parti Pomeranian. LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Quiet home, patient family, Pom friend. HIGHLIGHTS: Housebroken, gentle, learning to be a pet! Wendy is a beautiful Pom who came to us with that big group of Poms a few months ago. She and her buddy Savannah are two of the prettiest, and the two most unsocialized of the group. When she arrived Wendy was completely shut down and would not even make eye contact. We spent time with her showing her that people can be trusted and that living in a home is a good thing. She's made some progress and we are at the point where a patient family or person can help her finish the journey. She does still have a way to go! Wendy had never experienced living in a home, getting treats, playing with toys, or being picked up and loved on. She is still afraid of many things and looks at people with scared eyes when they reach for her. That said you can pick her up and pet her and she will sit quietly in your lap even though she's not comfortable. One thing we have discovered is that Wendy loves belly rubs! She will slightly roll over on her side and lift up her back leg and invite you to rub her tummy! Wendy loves a big fluffy donut bed, and retreats there for safety and security. Even though she is still hesitant about being picked up you can rub that little belly all day long. Her foster mom can also hold her, hug her gently, and kiss her little head. She is stressed at first but then settles down. She can be nervous at times and may pace and pant when her family leaves the home until she finally goes to sleep in her bed. Once she is used to the home and the comings and goings of her new family, Wendy will bark with excitement when her person comes home. Like many Poms Wendy is truly comfortable with another of her breed. Wendy and Savannah are being fostered in the same foster home and they often rely on each other. Wendy gains confidence to do things that she observes her curious little Pom friend doing. She does bark and grumble at other dogs in the house if they get too close. With some time and gentle correction she will become more tolerant of them. She would do best in a calm home with other dogs who respect her space and give her time to gain trust. Her best home will be one with another Pom in it. Children will scare her and she is absolutely NOT a fan of cats. At first Wendy had to be carried outside to potty, and we expect that will happen again in a new home. However, as she gets more comfortable she will go outside with the other dogs if her foster mom goes out first. When she gets outside, it is party time for this girl. Wendy loves to be outside! She does well with potty training, takes care of business and then scoots her back feet and hops around in circles. Wendy enjoys playing and will initiate play with her Pom friend Savannah. She is not been leash trained and since she does not trust people and sometimes will bolt when she is scared, she absolutely needs a home with a fenced yard. Wendy has made some steady progress but will need a family who will understand that time and patience will help her to thrive even more. She has been for the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, has been spayed, had a dental when she got her spay, has been fecal tested, is heartworm negative, has had a 12 month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. Her foster mom can feel her back legs pop a little when Wendy is picked up and, like many small dogs, she does have luxating patellas.
