About Chewy

Adoption Fee: 450.00
Poodle / Chihuahua
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

CHEWY is a 7 year old, 8 pound male Poodle mix LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Loving home, small doggy friend (he likes girls best), fenced yard preferred. HIGHLIGHTS: Sweet and happy little boy! Chewy was surrendered to us after being abandoned by his owner. He is a very affectionate and friendly little dog who definitely deserves better! Chewy is so excited to be living in a home getting lots of love. He has the best personality and his tail rarely stops wagging. He loves pets and scratches and snuggles equally, and will flop over for a belly rub anytime his person is near. He is happy being near his people and happily bounces over to them for head scratches and kisses. Knowing he's loved is very important to him too and he treasures one-on-one time with his person. Chewy loves going for car rides and get so excited when you pick up your keys! He will whine and bark when initially left at home, but once he knows someone is coming back for him he's fine. After a few minutes he will curl up to nap on the sofa or in a doggy bed till his person comes home. He barks when the other dogs bark and also likes to go outside and let all the other dogs in the neighborhood know that he has arrived! Chewy has always been with other little dogs and would love a home with at least one other small dog for company. He would enjoy having a furry friend to run and play! Chewy will curl up with another dog on the sofa or in a doggy bed, but at times may grumble or snip if another dog invades his space, especially if he's lying near his person. He doesn't do it aggressively, just a little warning grumble (which one of the little girl dogs in his foster home disregards and he's just fine). Chewy was with a lot of other dogs all competing for food, warmth, attention and comfort so this behavior is understandable and easily managed. He occasionally will bark at the cats in his foster home, but that's the extent of his interaction with them. We don't think he is a good fit for little kids but older kids should be fine. Chewy seems to be housebroken! He will stand in front of his foster mom when he wants to go outside and only had a couple of accidents in his foster home when he first got there. He is doing well on leash training but a fenced yard would be best. Chewy loves to sleep in the big bed between his foster parents heads. He will occasionally roll over during the night and rest his head on his foster mom's cheek or shoulder. He's such a loving boy! He is the kind of dog who's going to need to be brushed and groomed regularly, and the good part about that is that he loves it! Nothing makes him happier than lying with his person and being brushed with a soft brush! Chewy has grade 4/4 luxating patellas. When he runs he has the cutest little bunny hop! He was at some point was living outside and is heartworm positive. He has started treatment which is covered by the rescue until he tests negative. Chewy has had a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, has been fecal tested and wormed, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot as part of his heartworm treatment, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. He had a dental when he was neutered and had 10 bad teeth pulled. (Dogs have plenty of teeth so he's doing just fine!)
