Please help BAGEL!!!! East Valley Shelter has a 2 year old big dog on Orange Alert!!! This is an Orange Medical Alert for New Hope members of the Urgent Medical Response Team. Animals appearing on the Orange Alert are not irremediably suffering but require urgent and/or extensive medical care beyond what LAAS can provide. If at any time an animal's injury or illness is determined by the Department's veterinary staff to be medically extensive or severe, that animal may be humanely euthanized for irremediable suffering without any prior notice. Bagel has been observed as having a high level of FAS in the Shelter environment. Continued high levels of FAS can be deleterious to both the physiological and emotional well-being of the pet. Pets with elevated FAS that cannot be reduced will need to leave the Shelter for a more suitable home as soon as possible. Bagel is in our critical care medical room. He needs to see a private Veterinarian. Luz Ruiz,Lifesaving Liaison,East Valley Shelter 14409 Vanowen St,Van nuys, CA 91405. Medical Notes: Bagel has developed projectile vomiting and bloody stool. Needs to get out as soon as possible. Volunteer notes: 3/11/2023 Tail wagging and excited to see me: eager to be leashed and get out. Urinated for a long time. Also greeted people along the way and received pets from the public. Once in the yard, Bagel played with the Jolly ball. briefly but was interested in the people. He then loved butt scratches and sitting or lying down for treats. Now that Bagel is starting to get out more frequently, though he should go out twice daily, he is less anxious and can predict that he will be able to relieve himself. He is also not as hesitant or fearful of returning to his kennel. 3/4/2023 Bagel was panting but wagging his tail when I went to get him, and he is housetrained, so I suspect that is the source of the panting. Bagel urinated twice for long periods at the beginning a Once he has eliminated, Bagel walks fairly well on leash, pulling slightly to moderately, depending on what is in the environment. Upon return to the kennel, he doesn't want to go back into his kennel, he will if I go in with him, and sometimes he is too stressed by the noise to take a treat, but i stay a few seconds after exiting to let him lick my hand through the door and reassure him. Bagel needs to get out daily for potty beaks and a break from the room noise, as both seem to cause him stress, and being moved out to the main floor when a dog is adopted would also greatly improve the consistency of his potty breaks and ability to have less reverb in and around the room he is in. 2/26/2023 Bagel appears to be housetrained, as there was no urine in his kennel and once he reached the yard, he eliminated for a long time. He also was loose and friendly in the kennel but perked up at the sight of the leash and stepped right into the loop. Getting out much more frequently to relieve himself could greatly affect his perceived behavior and kennel presentation, and he will benefit from being on the floor, as he immediately cowered and started panting heavily again upon entering the kennel. No issue removing the leash, but he wanted back out and returned to the kennel door trembling!!!
