Argo is a spunky, tricolor, charismatic, 14 month old, 43lb pure bred Border Collie with the energy of a lightning bolt. He can transition from ripping across a field to snuggling on the couch within a 5 minute timeframe, and he prefers it that way. He will make a trusted companion that will be at your side through it all. What's the like about Argo? He's an athletic wonder, with the energy to go the distance. He is well trained, specifically off leash with a strong ability to re-call and knows his distance limits intuitively. He knows all of the basic commands such as sit, stay, heel, paw, down, and he has been crate trained since he was 8-weeks. He seeks his crate as a space for relaxation and sleep. He has fantastic dog skills and will play for hours on end, typically until the other dog gives up for some rest. He has never been distructive in the home beyond minor issues (pillow and a shoe). What should you be ready for? Argo can be reactive to unfamiliar people. When he first meets a new person in his space (the home) or if he encounters an isolated stranger that surprises him, he will react vocally. Oddly enough, he is totally ok in public spaces with people about and doesn't have any reaction issues. He hasn't bitten anyone and it has been fairly easy to avoid putting him in a situation where he could bite. We know this is not aggression because in almost every instance, after 5-minutes of reactive barking, he can calm down, and become comfortable with the new person. We have been successfully using Distance Mark Treat training and Engage / Disengage which has been helpful. With the right person who is ready to train him, we are confident we could work through this. Who would Argo be good for? Someone or a family who has land for Argo to roam or get his energy out. Ideally, Argo will find his home on a farm or ranch where he could room acres of land as this is his nature. He would love to have another dog to play with and can keep up with the absolute best of them. Why are we re-homing Argo? We love Argo dearly but we are not in a place in life that is best for him. We live in a small condo in Boulder that doesn't have outdoor access. Our careers are extremely demanding and we do not have the daily time that is required to keep a border collie like him entertained physically and mentally. Ultimately we do not think sending him to doggie daycare 3x+ per week and keeping him cooped up inside is the best life he could be living. It breaks our hearts but it is what is best for him.
