About Elrod

With little short legs attached to a regular sized body Elrod is so adorable!!! He naturally stands with his paws facing outwards so he looks like a little seal. He's not nearly as big though - he's a medium sized 2YO Lab mix. He's about as close to a seal as you can get in your home though! He's available for any dog or seal lovers out there to adopt, foster, or rescue. He's been looking for a home to call his own since February. He doesn't make the best first impression. When you walk by his kennel he acts intimidating if he doesn't know you, but he's much more relaxed and happy to meet you outside of his kennel. Stop by and visit him anytime we're open - we'd be happy to introduce you outside to start you off on the right paw! He's super sweet and friendly. After he's had a moment to warm up to you he's all tail wags and asking for pets. Elrod has done well meeting children in shelter. He may have the potential to be a great family dog! He's also done really well with multiple other dogs in shelter playgroups. There was an incident where another, larger dog stepped on him while she was trying to beg for pet - that could have been a tense situation but Elrod took it all in stride! He didn't mind at all. He loves pets so much himself that he completely understood. He has a mostly low energy level after getting some energy out. He loves a good game of fetch though! He really enjoys squeaky toys and would love it if you'd throw a few for him. Elrod has proven himself to be quite intelligent! He already knows how to sit on command, and he'll do so if he even thinks you want him to sit. When we clean the dogs' kennels in shelter we lean their beds up against the wall so they don't pool with water and so we can clean under them. Elrod has taught himself how to put it back down! He doesn't wait for a human to do it for him��%BD'��%BD|or even for that human to finish cleaning. Elrod is a 2YO Lab/Dachshund mix who has been in the shelter since 2/9/23. He weighs 33 lbs.
