Please note that we will ask for a vet reference. Name: Sadie Age: 6 years Breed: Border Collie/Labrador Retriever mix, medium, 42# Sex: Female, Spayed Location: Sacramento County, CA VET INFORMATION: Sadie is spayed and microchipped. She is up to date on vaccinations and is heartworm negative. Sadie has a condition called progressive retinal atrophy that's causing her to lose her sight. It's very gradual so she's adjusting well and can still live life normally. She is not totally blind yet but will completely lose her vision. Sadie was seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist and diagnosed in early 2022. Her regular vet's office said that she can be nervous when at their office. Sadie is a healthy and happy dog other than her vision. OWNER INFORMATION: Sadie has been with her owners since she was a puppy. However, now that she is losing her sight, it's making her startle more easily so she needs a home with no other dogs or kids. Her owners have a 1 year old daughter that loves Sadie. Unfortunately the feeling is not mutual, and Sadie startles easily when their daughter approaches her. She is still a playful, loving dog, but she is having a hard time being in the house with their daughter. Sadie is an indoor dog with the run of the house. She is housebroken and leash trained. Sadie knows cues for sit, stay, and heel (to an extent). Sadie is an outgoing pup who can be nervous at times. She's good with men, women, and teenagers. Sadie has been in minor altercations with other dogs, nothing serious according to her owners. For the most part she is fine around people. Due to her retinal atrophy she needs to be approached slowly and gently so she is not startled or surprised. Sadie can be possessive with treats and food. She has snapped at other dogs before and does not like other dogs in her personal space when eating, although she has also played and enjoyed other dogs. Her owners tell us that she is a dog that likes to be left alone when she is in her bed or eating or having a treat, like many dogs do. She just likes her personal space in those specific scenarios. They tell us that Sadie has never been in a serious fight with another dog, just brief scuffles with other dogs at the park. With Sadie's eyesight getting worse, they are not sure if that will change or not. Sadie also does not like being surprised by small children since they typically cannot interpret her condition. But generally she is fine around people who respect her space and approach her gently SADIE'S OWNERS WOULD LIKE YOU TO KNOW: 'This has been an incredibly difficult decision that we are not happy with, but have determined it is the best decision for our family. Sadie is a great, fun and loving dog who loves playing fetch. The only reason we are rehoming her is to give her a better life where she is not nervous and anxious with our young daughter running around our house.' Does anyone have room for sweet Sadie? **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
