They are living in homes or are with other rescues, but their owners can no longer keep them or their rescues are seeking permanent placement, such as an adoptive home, for them. Name: Maui and Moana Age: Born early January 2023 Breed: Mixed, possibly Dachshund or Jack Russell Terrier, will likely be small dogs when fully grown, currently 6# Sex: Maui - male, Moana - female Location: Chittenden County, Vermont For videos of Maui and Moana, please visit: https://vimeo.com/808093419 and https://vimeo.com/808092996 and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aY8xojIRfTA Maui and Moana are in a foster home with For The Love of Dogs Vermont. Please visit their online profiles by clicking on the link below and searching for Maui or Moana: https://fortheloveofdogsvermont.com/adoptable-dogs VET INFORMATION: Per their rescue, Maui and Moana are up to date on vaccinations as is appropriate for their age. They are too young for heartworm testing or to be altered, but they will be altered by their rescue. RESCUE INFORMATION: Maui and Moana were taken into rescue from an overfull Louisiana shelter. They were going to be euthanized because they were believed to be deaf and blind; at a recent vet visit, the vet determined they have 'limited sight, limited hearing.' They are mixed breed, possibly some Dachshund or Jack Russell, 9 weeks and 6 pounds. They get a lot of one-on-one socialization in their foster home and are fun, playful puppies who get along fine despite their limitations. They play well with other dogs and would benefit from having a gentle dog sibling in the family. Kind, gentle children are welcome. If you're considering adopting Maui & Moana, please review these deaf and blind dog training materials provided by Keller's Cause. https://www.kellerscause.com/with-a-deaf-and-blind-dog Puppies have special needs and will only be placed in a home where they can be monitored often (they should not be left alone for more than 4 hours at a time). Please consider your time and space limitations before applying to adopt a puppy. More on Maui (male): Has shorter legs; Very sweet; Able to see a fair amount and navigate his environment independently; Appears to have minimal hearing; Gets along well with dogs both big and small; Great with kids; Less outgoing than his sister, Moana; Finds comfort being with his people; Will greatly benefit from having another dog in his home to learn from. More on Moana (female): Very sweet, playful pup; Can see a fair amount and has no problem navigating her environment independently; Appears to have minimal hearing; Curious and very comfortable exploring her environment; Loves to snuggle in the comfort of a lap or with another furry friend; Gets along great with dogs both big and small; Great with kids (sleeps with the 11 yo in her foster home), though going through typical puppy teething so older children best; House-training going well; Working on crate- training and leash-walking.
