About Huggins

Meet Huggins. Huggins is looking for his own special furever family. This handsome boy was surrendered by his owner because he has developed a tendency to resource guard his human. His owner has spent over $4000 on training, but he continues to 'protect' his owner when other people approach. When his dad is not around (as in doggy day care) this behavior does not show itself AT ALL. He regularly attends doggy day care where he is a favorite with the staff and other dogs. From his owner: 'He has developed an intense behavioral attachment to myself and doesn't allow anyone new, or even old friends, to be around me without him becoming skittish, nervous, and growling. He shows none of these issues when I am not around and is considered a model pup at daycare. His daycare was shocked to hear why I asked them if he shows any of these behaviors around strangers or new people.' Huggins knows all of his basic commands and is good on a leash. He LOVES to play with other dogs and LOVES to play fetch. Huggins has done dock diving in the past and would be an excellent candidate for flyball or agility. He has lots of energy and needs a 'job' to give him a positive outlet for that energy. He would do well with another confident, easy going fur brother or sister to help him work through his concern over his human. Huggins has not been around cats but does not tend to be overly interested in birds or squirrels when on walks or playing in the yard. He has not been exposed to children, and with his current behavioral situation, families with young children will not be considered for his adoption. Dog savvy teenagers would be considered with a meet and greet. Huggins travels well in a car, he used to ride with his dad at work. Prior to a move to a new city and house, he used to meet many people when with his dad, and had no guarding issues. Huggins is 2yo old and weighs 45#. He is neutered, UTD on all of his vaccines. He is on HW and flea prevention and microchipped. Huggins is being fostered in Cincinnati, OH.
