About Ika

Adoption Fee: $100
Belgian Malinois mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Super honest post. We recently pulled Ika from a high-kill shelter. We were told that she is a 3-year old malinois mix, which seems correct. We were told that she was socialized and good with everything but kids, but this is not the case. I already love her, but my home is giving her so much anxiety she is getting sick to her stomach. Please keep reading to see what SHE needs: The Good: Ika is very well trained. She walks beautifully on a leash, knows sit, down, shake, up, and a few others by heart. She is not toy or food aggressive at all and does not guard either. She LOVES her squeaker toys and does not destroy them, just squeaks them. She needs to be in the same space as her human and prefers to be touching them at all times. She bonds quickly and loves her humans. She is fine with all genders, colors, sizes...just needs adults only. She is great in the house. 100% potty trained and will wake you or alert when she needs to go outside. She is respectful of boundaries and only jumps on furniture if told she is allowed. She is low energy in the house and loves to just sit by your side, but loves to play outside. She is fine when left alone for a few hours but prefers to not be. IF she can be trained she would love to be able to go everywhere with her person. She is GREAT in the car. She loves calming music. The Bad: )Ika is NOT cat friendly. I have 2 cats and am currently having to keep them separated at all times. Even the sound of their meows or collar bells will set off her responses. )Ika is NOT big dog friendly. My family member has a well-trained German Shepard that we tried to socialize her with. Ika was very aggressive and forgot all training when the dog was around. )Ika seems okay with small dogs (I have 2) but she does have a slight prey drive. If they get the zoomies around the yard she wants to grab them. I have to keep her on a leash at all times around them when outdoors. My dogs have learned quickly and stop when they get close to her or roll over quickly, but it needs to be noted. )She likes all people once she meets them but she makes a HORRIBLE first impression. )She was surrendered from her previous home because she tried to herd (not hurt, herd) a child and the kiddo was injured. What SHE Needs: This girl has high anxiety that leads to some crappy behaviors as well as some behaviors that were allowed (or possibly encouraged) in her previous home. She needs a home that provides: - A secure yard - People that are home most of the time - No other animals in the home - No small children - Someone willing to work with her daily. She'd love agility or long walks/runs. - A quiet house with few (or well announced) visitors. She is safe at my house and I will not give her to just anyone. This girl deserves the BEST life ever and she's been let down. I will personally bring her wherever she is going and do a home check (yes, I'm willing to drive anywhere in the US).
