Please read the bio in full for answers to your questions. In the event you have a question that is not covered in the bio, please email [email protected]. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application which can be found at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Please note that because all of our dogs live in foster homes, we are unable to set up meetings with a dog unless we have a completed adoption application on file. Adoptions must be about an hour of Wilmington, DE in order for our volunteers to be able to conduct an in person home visit. Little Gizmo is ready to go-go! This 15-year-old man is 7.5 lbs of love and can't wait to find his forever home. Gizmo is a snuggler, likes to play with his soft toys, sleeps through the night and well into the morning, and is very sweet! He can't manage steep stairs and doesn't even try, but can handle the few needed to get in and out of the house with minimal effort. Gizmo has a mild case of collapsing trachea. He often coughs in the morning and when waking up from a nap, but otherwise it doesn't seem to bother him and he is not currently on any medications. However, he will need regular vet check-ups to monitor his condition and must be walked using a harness, not a collar. His back right leg drags a bit, but Gizmo doesn't let that slow him down one bit! The vet isn't concerned about this and encouraged us to keep him active as long as possible. Otherwise, he's in great shape for a senior! Gizmo was an owner surrender euthanasia request, but the shelter staff knew that Gizmo still had plenty of life in him. He had over a pound of thick, matted fur on him, pneumonia, and a ruptured cyst, but thanks to our generous donors, he got a neuter, dental, and cyst removal surgery and now has a second lease on life! Possibly because of his experience at the shelter, Gizmo has separation anxiety and will usually bark when he is left alone in the house - sometimes for hours at a time. His current foster family is working with him to help him learn to trust again, but it will take some time and patience. A house where people are home most of the time would be ideal. Gizmo was recently neutered and isn't fully housetrained yet. His current foster mom keeps a diaper on him which doesn't bother him at all. He eats dry kibble, enjoys short walks, and doesn't bark when his humans are home except to let you know when he's ready to come back inside. Gizmo gets along very well with other dogs. He is a little too curious about his foster mom's bunnies so she keeps them apart. He hasn't been tested with cats. He has been sweet and friendly with all the people he has met so far, including children.
