About Zara

Zara is back with us and looking for her new home. Zara was adopted out through CVHS as a puppy in 2020 and got lost this past July. She's apparently a crafty little dog because she was only found a couple of weeks ago. She's been in her foster home since then learning how to be a dog in a family again. Zara is a twenty-pound, three-year old schnauzer/pug mix. She is microchipped, spayed, heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccinations. Zara's defining characteristic is she LOVES her people. She wants to sit next to you, she wants to protect your house, she will even ignore her food if she thinks she can get petted. She is such a happy dog. When she stares at you to get your attention, it's hard to resist. She is learning that people can pet and love more than one dog at a time, so she might do best as an only dog. However, she DOES love to play with other dogs - she's just a little awkward at social skills at first. She has lived with children before, but since we're not sure what her home life was like, we would suggest older children, if any. She walks nicely on a leash until she thinks you are trying to trick her and she stops, so she is best on a slip lead or a harness that fits VERY well that she can't back out of. She trembles on car rides but she will probably get better the more rides she takes. She is very vocal when people come into her home, but once introduced, she warms up quickly to being petted. Zara is housebroken and she grudgingly sleeps in a crate (though she'd MUCH rather be in your bed near you). She loves dog beds, being outside where she can bark at everyone, and toys of all kinds. She will need a VERY secure fenced yard and a family patient enough to let her find her bearings for a few days and relax.
