*LOKI NEEDS A HOME* Loki is the God of Mischief, Thor's brother in The Marvel Comic Universe. I couldn't think of a more fitting name for this boy. He is going to require a little more effort than normal and it will be challenging, but it is so worth it when he starts to come around. Once Loki gets to know you, and you've built some trust with him, he can be a great dog, loving so sweet and very funny. He has a great personality 99% of the time. Loves to match the pitch of the fire trucks, play with his toys outside, loves his peanut butter kongs. He cares about his people and will fearlessly fight for them. He is around 9 at this time, with a lot of spunk left. Loki is a great dog that has been through some not so great experiences in his life. When he crossed our path, he was living in a home on the east side of the state with some wonderful people who rescued him from a Kill shelter in Kansas. They had 2 other huskies that Loki did not get along with so He was essentially living out of a kennel except while being supervised on a leash. They did not know much about his life before then, but they took him in, got him heartworm negative and got rid of his kennel cough. At this point they decided to rehome him as he did not have much a life with them, having to be separated from the other dogs constantly. This is when we got him. (He was between 5 and 7 years old at this time according to the little vet records we got with him) He has not been socialized with other animals and does not do well with other animals regardless of the circumstances. He is extremely defensive and possessive, especially over his food/ toys. He does not trust anyone wholly, and who could in his position. I'm sure this dog has experienced some horrific things, (terrified of stairs, defends his food like it's his last meal, and took a long time to allow us to even do simple things like rub his belly.) He is still almost impossible to get into the vet, terrified of the doctor. **Absolute requirements for Loki: - His own space in the house for his kennel, food and water that isn't frequently passed by (a spare bedroom on the main level works perfect) - secure, fenced in yard - absolutely no other animals or children - Love and Patience - requires heartworm medication monthly as well as flea & tick meds He would do great with a single person who has time to take him on daily walks (absolutely must be leashed) Unfortunately due to his defensiveness with his food and toys, with a small child running around we are at a loss trying to keep the two separated. Loki just wants to be involved with the family, but we just can't take a chance that loki would become defensive to our son (over a toy laying out, his food, etc.) We love this dog so much, and we wish there was any other solution, but we need to do what's best for him & our family. We know there is someone out there that can give him the love and attention he deserves, despite his flaws. Please reach out to me via private message if you are interested in meeting him to see if you are a good fit for him. Full disclosure, after you meet him, if it is a good fit I would request to see where he would be living to ensure it is sufficient for him and what having a dog like Loki requires.
