About Piper

Adoption Fee: $50
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Piper is beautiful, fun and smart! She knows over 40 hand signs and some ASL. She is loving but has fear biting sometimes. She is mostly a perfect dog and you would never even know she is deaf if you seen her. She plays off leash at parks and can ignore most other people and dogs. As she has matured I believe she may need medication or some type of conditioning. Piper's story: I saw Piper in a puppy store where she had been for over 1 month and she was only 12 weeks old. She was discounted to $500 and I was sad for her due to her deafness and I thought I will get her and help her find a new home. However my husband fell head over heels for her and we then set out on a journey to provide anything and everything we could to assist Piper and she thrived! As Piper began to mature and maybe due to other reasons like our move, that undermined her confidence and due to her deafness, her nipping got worse. She can stop herself so I do not think she is truly an aggressive dog, just fearful. She can hear some noises and we would spend time trying out sounds to see what she could hear. We have a vibration collar, but never used it. Some of her triggers are airplanes, cars, small animals and smells of other animals. Sometimes the neighbor dogs would come outside and she could smell them and go nuts. We taught her to go through a hoop and sit, lay down, stay, shake, sit up, and many more commands as well as know many signs, Her favorite treat is cream cheese on a lick pad. We trained her with treats for everything. I will attach some more photos and videos if possible. She does not handle my 12 year old very well and this could be because she has a cat and we keep it separate. She would be a great companion and can get along with a lot of dogs but maybe not in the same home. She is at the local shelter right now for biting me while trying to get to my 12 year old. She did not break the skin in my daughter but she did on me. No medical care needed just some band aids, but we reported it this time and she was taken to quarantine as we did not know what else we can do. She deserves a second chance with the right circumstances. Please contact me even if you are able to foster for a time we could use the time to find a permanent home for her. THANK YOU!!THANK YOU!!!THANK YOU!!!THANK YOU!!THANK YOU!!!THANK YOU!!!THANK YOU!!THANK YOU!!!THANK YOU!!! Piper made it to the Ranch!!!! This beautiful dog that is so loved was saved by The Animal Network during her last hours. We did not want to allow our beloved pet to be euthanized however could not bring her home. We had an outpour of support starting from day 1 of posting here! Thanks to Pattie, Annie, Laurie, Monica, Kendra, Christina and Axel, The Nevada Working Dogs Program, A path for Paws, and countless others in our family who prayed for Piper to have her best chance at a Cattle Dog Life! Now Piper gets to be trained and has an awesome chance of being rehomed into a lifestyle that works for her breeds needs. I wish that all people who intend to adopt a working breed can understand that these dogs have very special needs that most city life aspects cannot offer. I only hope that I am able to bring about some awareness for future adopters. I will always love our experience with our beautiful girl and wish her the best going forward at a very fulfilling life!
