Lori is a mix of Idaho Shag (Australian Shepherd, Border Collie, and Airedale combination common to Eastern Idaho for working livestock) and Catahoula, born 4/2023. She is SPECIAL NEEDS due to DEAFNESS and some visual impairment. She had Parvo as a young pup in spite of appropriate vaccinations, then was revaccinated. She has had all medical: spay, vaccines, microchip, and worming. Lori has had ten days of private training, walks well on a leash, and is potty trained/crate trained. She got along great with the trainer's dogs and cat, as well as his 3 year old who Lori snuggled with on the sofa. She does well with people she knows and trusts, but needs careful introduction due to her deficits, startle reflex, and background of no training until after six months. Lori will do well with a family who provides a safe, stable environment, regular exercise routines, confidence building, and training refreshers during activities of daily living. She has a lot of energy that when directed makes her a biddable girl. She wants to please and be near her human. She is crate trained, gets along with most dogs, and ignores our old cat, but will need time to adapt to her new environment. Lori is very sensitive and has a great nose! She is a working breed combination and a knowledge of those breeds will be important to Lori's success. Her eyes are pale blue and quite sun-sensitive. Lori will require a family with an understanding of her special needs and a willingness to continue training, as well as keep her safe! Deaf dogs are at risk in any new environment because they cannot hear normal cues in the environment like traffic or even approaching people. She is a beautiful dog who has great potential in the right family! Please read about her breed and have an understanding of what it takes to raise a deaf dog before inquiring.
