About CUDA BEAR

Adoption Fee: $150
American Staffordshire Terrier / Pit Bull
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Cuda Bear was adopted by a family from a rescue when he was about a 1 year old. He has been living with his loving family for the last 4 years. Cuda really bonded with the 2 children in his family (especially with the younger child whom is now 8 years old). The older child in the home is a teenager and is on the autism spectrum and with age has been experiencing more severe behavioral episodes; which can be very stressful for the family and especially for Cuda. Not knowing whether to protect the other family members or to run and hide, Cuda becomes very overwhelmed which adds to the already stressful situation. The episodes displayed by the teenager are difficult to predict. To keep order in the home, Cuda is often kept isolated in another room to prevent additional stress. This is hard for Cuda to understand because he hasn't done anything wrong to be separated and he is very used to being an active part of the family and now is often alone unless getting to play with the younger child (whom he adores). To add insult to injury, Cuda also recently lost his pack leader, who was an older small breed dog that passed away. Without his alpha to lead him, Cuda has grown aimless and even more anxious. It breaks his family's heart to have to rehome Cuda as they love him very much and are very attached to him but since they are unable to give him what he needs they want to find a loving home that can give him what he needs. Cuda is a 5 year old terrier mix and comes neutered, vaccinated and up to date on preventatives. He social and loves to play, swim in the pool and chase his beloved tennis balls. Cuda plays really well with the younger child (8yrs old) who is not special needs, and when Cuda isn't separated, he waits by the front door for them to get home from school. They sleep, swim and play together! We are looking for a calm and experienced household that will take things slow with Cuda. Due to the high stress living environment that he's currently in, it will take Cuda time and patience to decompress and fully come out of his shell. He responds well to a strong calm male lead, or a female that is a clear leader. He needs an experienced adopter in dog behavior and demonstrating leadership. He recently had a vet appointment and did excellent at the vet appointment and did not need any methods of restraint or medication for the appointment (which involved vaccines and a blood draw). The veterinarian took things slow and was a calm confident male and he let Cuda come to him before starting the procedures. Cuda was very compliant and appeared to enjoy the attention, pets and treats for good behavior. Cuda bonds with his people through play and exercise rather than through obedience training although he has received extended obedience training. Please contact with any questions or to schedule a meet and greet. Home checks are required. Please do not contact if you are not willing to allow a home visit.
