Please email [email protected] if you are interested in Elmer. Please note we will ask for a vet reference. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them. These dogs are with their owners, and are not in BDRA foster homes. We do our best to screen these dogs, but make no guarantees regarding the information posted.** Elmer is a very handsome fellow in need of a new home. His owners are retired and live out of their van for parts of the year, and Elmer is having a difficult time adapting to their lifestyle. Name: Elmer Breed: Mixed Age: DOB 2016 Sex: Male (confirmed neutered), 47 pounds Location: Mesa County CO Vet Info: Elmer is confirmed neutered. He is up to date on his rabies and distemper vaccines and is next due in February, 2024. He is heartworm negative per his owner, and is also on thyroid medication. Elmer went blind about a year ago due to Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) and is completely blind. Dog Info: Elmer is an indoor dog with run of the house. He is housebroken and leash trained. Before he went blind, Elmer completed an obedience training course, and he knows, Sit, Lay Down, Stay, Watch Out, Step Up and Step Down. Elmer is good with both men and women, but his owner tells us he is a little more comfortable and loving with women. He currently lives with another dog and his owner writes, 'They mostly ignore each other', but Elmer does not tend to like other dogs, and will need a home where he is the only dog. He recently attacked his owner's parent's smaller dog and it did break the skin in a few places. Elmer is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, and has never shown aggression towards a person. His owner gave us more details: 'He has never been aggressive with a human (but he does bark and raise his fur if someone new comes - it goes away right away when they introduce themselves though).' Elmer's owner wants us to know what a special fellow he is! 'He would do great in a home as the only dog, with owners who would love to take him on car rides and give him walks. He LOVES food and snow, and is sweet but a little aloof. At home, he is very chill. He sleeps a lot, doesn't bark unless barked at, and has never gone to the bathroom in the house.'
