About Bailey

Lab mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Bailey was a pup found tied up in front of a shelter with a note that said, ' Bailey 6-year-old lab mix.' When Southern Skies was alerted we went to work immediately to help Bailey. When Bailey met her foster, she could tell she had flea dermatitis, her hair was thinning, and once she got her home and had her a few days we noticed a limp. But the most notable thing about Bailey was that she looked so sad and defeated. Bailey we knew went through a heartbreaking event and discomfort of a skin condition, but later after she was seen by a Veterinarian we learned she suffered an old injury, a broken leg. Since that day she has received a healthy diet, her skin has been treated, her skin is good after treatment, and her leg has been evaluated by two Veterinarians. She has also been receiving so much love from her foster parents. We had several Veterinarian give their opinions about Bailey's leg. Her break is at a horrible place, at the top of her hind leg, luckily she is not in pain, gets around very well, and is running and playing with her fur siblings. Both Veterinarians said nature had begun the healing process and at this point, surgery would not be an option, and both veterinarians agreed there were two options do nothing and allow her to rest so more healing can take place or amputation. We elected to let her bed rest to allow her to heal. Bailey has adjusted very well; her body language has changed from sad and dejected to healthy and well-loved. Her head is up, her eyes are bright, her ears perky, her mouth no longer tight and she just looks so relaxed. She is a happy sweet girl who loves toys and going for walks and at six she is still pretty playful. Bailey rides well, is house-trained, does well in a crate, and gets along with other dogs. Bailey also loves food. This girl would do well in a calmer household, but still, one that will exercise and play with her. A fenced yard where she can explore, play, and sunbathe. She also has blossomed into a home where there is someone home a lot. She plays well with other dogs, but she wouldn't mind being an only dog. She has been cat tested and had no reaction. Bailey has been spayed and is on heartworm prevention and flea/tick prevention.
