Meet adoptable Mellow! Mellow came into the shelter last week after being found as a stray hiding under someone's porch. He had a large collar with a bit of chain attached to it upon intake which was removed due to being too tight around his neck. He has a lot of scars all over his body from being attacked by another dog or a wild animal and is pretty emaciated. Thankfully, he is on the mend and is ready to find a family where he will be loved. Given Mellow's condition on intake, we can only assume this is a dog that has been through a lot in his short life. Despite this, he has so much love to give! In the short time he has been with us, he is already a volunteer favorite due to his sweet and fun personality. He loves treats, and has learned how to sit since being in shelter care. He is very treat motivated, and would probably jump off a building if he knew he would get a treat for doing it. More than anything, Mellow LOVES scratches! Seriously, if you want to be friends with him, you are going to owe him a full body massage first, then he will be your friend for life. He gets along beautifully with other dogs, but does have some resource-guarding issues and will need to be fed separately from other pets in his new home. Kids of any age would be a great match for him. All he needs is the right person to come along and see his sweet heart! Could that be you? Mellow is a year old and weighs 49.8 pounds currently, we do expect him to weigh more once he gets some groceries, though. He has been vaccinated, treated for fleas/ticks and has tested positive for heartworm disease and negative all tick born diseases. There are several cheap methods of treatment for heartworm disease, but it cannot be done in the shelter environment due to the amount of stressors. Do not let this be the thing that deters you from adoption! Please share our adoptable pets to help them find their forever homes.
