River is a fairly high energy dog who loves to retrieve balls and frisbees almost relentlessly. He's fantastic to go hiking with; he doesn't care about other dogs on a trail, he just wants to be with his people and I can hike with him off leash. He NEVER runs away. He is the perfect dog for people who love to be outside. The cons for my family are that he needs more attention than we can give him since we're often gone from our home and travel often. He's a very vocal dog and whines incessantly if we're not throwing the ball for him. He also barks at literally everyone who comes into our house, including our own children. He doesn't differentiate between children and adults; if someone new is coming to our house, we have to make sure he's in the laundry room. This is very problematic since we have a 6-year-old who wants to be able to play with her friends. We've had him since he was a puppy and we all love him, but we just don't have what it takes to care for him anymore. For this reason, we want to make sure he goes to a home that understands his needs and is prepared for them.
