Adoption Fee: $325
Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Ranger, our Diamond in the Ruff! Our Ranger dude, an approximately 3-year-old, 65-pound-ish, red tricolor bobbin tail big-hearted Aussie mix. The poor boy's last Folks didn't give him guidance and attention he deserved and left him to figure it out himself. Not fair at all for a smart, instinctively active and affectionate breed. The handsome Diamond in the Ruff looking for a person to polish his rough edges and bring out his shiny best. Let's look take a closer look at dude's many facets: *Diamond Ranger: Ranger's an 'all about my Person' boy. He LOVES being with his Person. Foster Mom says he's a shadow sidekick sorta fellow- it's his favorite gig! Ranger is big on butt scratches and craves attention. So much so, the fella will do a tush push to 'butt in' on another dog's time. He does enjoy playtime with the Foster canine siblings, even sharing his bones. Doggo-a-doggo tug of war is a favorite game. The boy does well with the kitties. Occasionally, Ranger gets it into his head to start an impromptu game of cat chase and needs a reminder-thats a no, dude. Ranger does fine in his crate, though he will 'howler' for a minute or two. He has been left out alone in the kitchen while Foster Mom runs errands. His Forever Family will want to give him time to learn new routines. Whining doesnt get ya your own way. Ranger's has a great combination of happy dog and moderate energy. *Ruff Ranger: Ranger's a sorta Overgrown Puppy. That lack of consistent training and social enrichment this fine Aussie boy should have had. Ranger has a little separation anxiety. He is NOT not destructive or aggressive at all. When Ranger thinks he knows best, the dudester can be vocal in his opinion. He's responded to the consistent and clear limits Foster Mom has set. Ranger's big personality-an innate optimistic, enthusiastic, lively spirit. He propels out of his crate to welcome back his long lost Person (he tends to exaggerate)and focus on melding himself into them. He can get too rowdy and overexcited when he plays with the other dogs. Our late bloomer is still in the process of potty training-he came to his Foster home not knowing much about bathroom etiquette-since he was left to figure it out himself before. Foster Mom lets the fella out regularly and says it has gotten better, but Ranger's folks must be willing to continue working with him. Groom is a lot of wiggle and fuss. Foster Mom and Ranger have worked on desensitization(exposing him to routine touch and direction)and helping him manage his reactions. He's become a good boy about getting his paws wiped. Ranger's a big drinker-access to water is important to him. His family will want to work with providing it in line with potty routine. *Forever Ranger: Ranger can be a big dramatic lug. Redirection, and treats have helped too. Puzzles, sniff games, and licky mats are great tools. He's a lil stubborn but has a heart of gold. Ranger has benefitted greatly from consistent boundaries. Ranger's Forever Folks? They are 'all-in' with their boy. Confident, loving dog manager who know Aussies, and will get a kick out of seeing the dude desire realize find his inner Diamond Dudester. He's quite responsive to his environment, a calm home is ideal for Ranger. A dog who has come from very little guidance to loving leadership needs time to adjust and become a family member. Foster Mom says the first week or two were an especially important time to give him for decompression and becoming secure and learn the new environment. Intentional training, planned socialization, and planned play/activity are the key to Ranger's becoming his best boy self. Another well-trained dog may be ok if family monitors appropriate play. Felines are fine. However, he certainly would Adore being the Lone Ranger for his Family to love on and focus on. A fence is not necessarily necessary. Dog-savvy kiddos 13 and up who can be a part of training Ranger would be welcome. Ranger is a gotcha guy who just needs Someone to be in charge. Note: Multiresidential buildings(such as apartments) and dog parks are not a good fit for this boy. An adopter commits to slow and monitored introductions with new people, especially children, other animals, and new places. Ranger raves, 'My Person is my Passion! Will you take me under your wing?'
