About Valley

Chihuahua / Jack Russell
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 1. He does better with males. 2. He prefers to be the only animal in the home. 3. No children in the home. 1-year-old male, Chihuahua/Jack Russell mix, about 10 pounds. Are you a guy who loves watching 'grumpy' chihuahua videos and thinks, 'Hey, I'd like one of my very own?' If so, Valley is the dog for you ?. Valley is a small guy with the most beautiful big brown eyes who was found exploring (strutting confidently I imagine) a major highway in Yakima (hence the name) a few months back. In all seriousness, Valley is a young, super sweet, terrifically energetic, fun, cuddle-loving dog who is not ashamed of and does not hide his 'sass.' He also has the cutest little duck feet! With all of his puppy charm still intact, he is pure entertainment. I say 'guy' or male owner because while Valley does not dislike women and female energy, he does tend to prefer and gravitate toward men or male energy, which is pretty darn rare for rescue pups. If there are men and women in your household, he will most likely make the men his very own and, at times, guard them from other people and pets. Valley knows what he likes, and he likes it hard and thinks of it as his very own. For this reason, Valley needs an owner who is equally able to give him love and discipline. He most certainly will do better as an only dog or pet. He may also be okay in a home with a non-dominant, non-possessive, non-reactive dog, but no guarantees. Valley does have a few bad habits that will need attention and correction for him to become his very best puppy self. One of these bad habits is puppy mouthiness and snapping at or nipping at people when the feeling strikes him. He can be sitting on your lap enjoying the pets and attention you are giving him and then in an instant begin giving a low growl and snap at you. While he has never actually bitten his fosters, who he loves dearly, he does this snap, like he is biting, to startle the person and gain control. You must let Valley know you are in control. Often a firm 'No' and 'Get down' will correct the action. These instances have become very rare, but not entirely non-existent. But, what is truly wonderful about Valley is how smart he is and eager to learn. He knows when he has misbehaved and actually often disciplines himself. For these reasons, however, he cannot be in a home with children. He also loves to follow around his owners like a shadow and can easily get underfoot, so Valley is not for any owner with mobility issues or concerns. He also barks for a bit when left at home alone, so an apartment or townhouse might not be ideal. If you are looking for an adorable and sassy pup who is his 'own' dog, loves men, has the cutest swagger, adores walks and playing fetch, is a goofball in all the best ways, and will make you the center of his world.... then, Valley is for you. Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older. Puppies are adopted with a refundable spay/neuter deposit (in addition to the adoption fee) and adopters are required to get their puppy to our vet for their pre-scheduled spay-neuter appointments. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. You must live within a three-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), so we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
