Willow came from a shelter in Mississippi. She was picked up after being hit by a car. Attempts were made to contact the owner and were unsuccessful. Her left hind leg was removed. The owners contacted the shelter later and said they had either given her to friends or friends were watching her when she was hit. They did not want her back. Willow is not acting aggressively to the resident dogs while she is in her crate. She has not been tested with kitties yet, but may be predatory toward them. She is walking 1/2 mile daily. She will try to chase squirrels and bunnies, but can be called off or dissuaded easily. She LOVES most people, but is a bit leery when around a man carrying something in his hand, is a cuddle bug and wants to please. Like many Akitas, she would prefer to approach any 'new' friends and check them out. Usually she approves, her ears go back and she turns into a wiggleworm. Her leash manners have improved but still need more work. She rides well in a car. She will sit for treats. While she can go up and down stairs, we are looking for a home with as few stairs as possible, single level preferred. Or a home where she will be doing stairs once or twice daily. She may be an akita mix or just a poorly bred Akita. She sheds like an Akita. Anyone who adopts her needs to understand that she MAY need a wheelchair in her elder years.
