About Bruin

Boxer / Australian Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Bruin! This handsome 3-year-old, 55-pound boy from Medway, MA has an incredible sense of humor and always has a twinkle in his eye. Per his DNA test, he is part Boxer, Pit Bull, and Aussie - a winning combo! Bruin loves to play, chase, and have fun. He is very smart and likes to be mentally stimulated by any kind of dog game or puzzle - the harder the better. He knows more commands than most dogs, but is ready to learn more. From basics like Sit, Down, and Stay, to more impressive commands like Leave It, Come, and Paw, Bruin is a one-man show. Not to worry, he is housetrained, non-destructive, neutered, and UTD on shots. You'll be envied for having a dog that is well-mannered and walks so well on a leash. Bruin also likes long, off-leash walks in the woods, swimming in ponds, and rolling in mud. He enjoys adventures on wheels and is always happy to jump in the car. He has a nice energy level to keep things pleasant, but relies on his person to keep things from getting too excitable so he doesn't get overstimulated. When at home by himself, he is perfectly fine. He will hang out in the house and watch the world outside the window or catch up on his beauty sleep. He also enjoys sleeping and eating in his playpen (also known as an X-Pen). Bruin enjoys the company of adults. Children confuse him, so between kids and cats it's a solid four paws down! Although Bruin lives with another dog right now, he would be okay as an only dog. He can be a bit bossy, so a self-assured, easy-going female is the best bet for a good match. If he could write, Bruin would have a daily planner so he would know what to expect each day. He craves structure, consistency, and routine. To him this is not a boring life. In fact, he likes having someone tell him what to do so he doesn't have to make the decisions. The only surprises he likes are those involving treats! Unlike human teens, this young adolescent loves rules and boundaries. Keep things rigid and you'll enable Bruin to be the dog he is most comfortable being. Bruin is being rehomed because a busy household with adults and kids coming and going is much too stressful. Bruin grew up during the pandemic but once those simpler times ended, he showed his lack of confidence and trust with things outside his inner circle. Though he's now exposed to regular off-leash pack walks and has a dog walker, he's never accepted a life with lots of people, noise, and commotion. Unfortunately problems have occurred when he is overstimulated. When one stressor after another builds and builds, he doesn't know how to manage what he sees as madness. He does have a nip/bite history, but no medical attention was needed. (More will be explained so you understand the circumstances.). PLEASE NOTE! With structure, Bruin is an angel - with fewer stressors, he's a really good dog! He has proved himself with people who have an authoritative presence. Confident handlers like his dog walker/sitter have no issues with Bruin's behavior. (And, she will be a resource to prospective adopters!) Bruin's road to success is a fresh start with an experienced person who understands how some dogs respond positively to direction and leadership - Bruin is one of these dogs.
