About Kastle

Adoption Fee: $500
Saint Bernard
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

It really breaks my heart to even consider rehoming him but I'm struggling with health problems and then the means to get him his proper vet care that he deserves. When we got him, we were doing much better and able to provide him with everything; unfortunately now he just doesn't get what he needs and I feel terribly guilty about it. Kastle is definitely a handful and I want to be VERY transparent, open, and honest about him upfront. S he's very dear to me and I want to ensure that everyone is happy and able to handle the transition. He's very, very nervous and shy of strangers. It is quite difficult to even pet him at first, but once he warms up he will love on you. He is EXTREMELY attached to me and my husband but I'm praying and hoping with time he will fall in love with his new family. He needs a huge amount of patience. He will bark and run away when he's scared, and probably will when he meets you. He is not aggressive - he's just scared. He finds many, many things very scary and I've worked on him with it a lot so he's definitely improved but he has and likely will bolt - so I do want people to be aware of that in case of something scaring him during a walk near a road or something. Other dogs scare him a bit, like everything else. We have another small dog who Kastle gets along perfectly well with because he grew up with him. (We brought Kastle home at 8 weeks). But some dogs do scare him. Otherwise, once they get to know each other, he LOVES to play. But I would really watch every single interaction closely at first. He is the same way with children, it's just how he has always been. Therefore I don't recommend ever letting small children play with him because he is just too nervous, and if he does try to play, he's rambunctious and can harm them. This is VERY important to me because I never want anything happening to him or any child. He is house trained but sometimes may have an accident (never pee, only poo accidents). But he's usually good about it. He absolutely loves to steal trash and eat ANY toilet paper or paper towel laying around, he is a complete ninja about this, lol. He will not touch rolls of toiler paper or paper towel though, just if its been ripped off. When you come home or in from outside, he will leap up to your height and try to touch your nose with his, he goes absolutely nuts and is very silly and excited when you come home, it can be of course difficult to deal with though because of his size. : ) He knows his name, Kastle, and his nicknames Kassie or Kas. He knows 'Sit', 'Down', 'Touch' (puts his nose to your palm), 'Go potty/Go Business' (go to the bathroom). He also can hold and carry items for you or bring them to you 'Hold it' and 'Bring'. He was originally taught in French so his 'Come' command is in French. He has gotten very rusty on his commands unfortunately because I just haven't had the time to work on them with him. : ( His birthday is September 5th, 2020. So he is 2 years and 5 months old as of tomorrow. He is not neutered yet, as I was waiting until about 3 years for him to grow as normally as possible for his breed, but I am completely comfortable with him being neutered at whatever time that you may wish as he is at a great age for it now. I do all of his grooming, I'm sure he would be terrified of a groomer unfortunately. He likes to be brushed and he is calm during it. He is great at getting his eye boogers cleaned throughout the day and his ears cleaned. He absolutely hates having his nails done. I use both clippers and a Dremel and he does growl and try to bite the Dremel and clippers, but it's a gentle bite. He just doesn't like it. He genuinely doesn't have a mean bone in his body. Unfortunately, he does have problems with his ears. He has an overproduction of wax so his ears get very itchy and need to be cleaned very frequently, I have some great wipes that I use for him that I will give to you. He does get very red and inflamed ears sometimes and we give him a safe dose of Benadryl that the vet recommended with a little bit of cheese, he takes them very well if there is enough cheese, lol. I did mention that cheese can give him an upset tummy in my listing, but the amount we give him with the medicine is small enough that it doesn't bother him. He absolutely adores his current food and he eats 6-8 cups a day depending on activity. He is pretty slim and fit. He MUST use a slow feeder bowl, I will give you his current one. He eats extremely fast. He has zero food possession or aggression. You can stick your hands in the bowl or pet him and he doesn't care at all. I have tested this since day one. Kastle is definitely 'special needs' and definitely a handful, but he is such a loving and kind boy once he feels safe with people. He will cuddle up and he loves to give hugs by just putting his head in your lap. Please let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks so much
