About Shep

Shep is a BIG 90+lb Rough Collie. He is sweet and loyal and very protective of our family. He doesn't put up with any rough housing at all and will bark and get in between parties that are roughing around he will back the 'bad guy' into a corner or against a wall or put himself between the two that are not getting along. He is a Mamas boy and will back his large bottom onto her lap so she can hold him all while his front legs are on the ground. He loves fetching toys, balls, frisbees. Shep needs a farm, ranch or other large parcel to protect and use his natural herding instincts. He loves being outside laying in the grass but where we are we can't provide that for him. He is a good obedient boy but he has gone after runners, joggers when he's been in front yard. He has nipped at them but never puncturing skin. We have had a lot of new neighbors move in and with Spring coming there will be lots of walkovers, runners coming by our house. I fear for their safety knowing they trigger Shep and it's scary when such a large dog is charging you with teeth showing! He is protecting us but puts him at danger of being put down. I want better for him and know he will thrive on a farm. He is my shadow and watches out for all of us. He has been raised with cats and tries to play with our large fluffy cat but he won't entertain the idea so Shep whines to me that the cat won't play. If we lived on a big property I wouldn't consider rehoming him but we don't and won't be and it's just not fair or safe for him here. Not interested in rehoming to some with large fenced in yard I want him on farm or really large property not in a neighborhood. I will need to visit the property 1st and if close enough would like to bring Shep for visits before handing him over for good. Also you must know he is a talker as collies are known for as well as sheds loads of hair so you need to be aware of that as well. He is a gentle giant that needs lots of leg room but able to cuddle up beside or near family as well.
