About Yaya

My name is Yaya and I'm 20 months old. I was rescued in Italy from the street when I was 3 months old. I am a big dog mix of golden retriever/Pyrenees. She is sweet like a golden retriever and playful but also can become very protective and doesn't trust everyone like guardian dog Pyrenees. I'm looking for a home with more space, we live in an apartment, and she needs more space and company. I don't think it is a good fix for families with kids. She can get nervous to sounds and movements and become aggressive. Living in the city has been very difficult to manage Yaya. She does not trust anyone who is too direct or confrontational in their first meetings. She warms up well to people who just ignore her and let her be. But she is cute and looks very sweet and everyone wants to pet her... If she is afraid or not feeling safe, she overreacts and can attack. I was training her so she will need more lessons, time and patience to help her become more relaxed and not over react. The trainer said to me that it is not a dangerous dog. She just does that for fear and insecurity of some situations that she doesn't understand and for that reason she reacts in that way. Eventually when she trusts you, she will play and be sweet. She has some ptsd with people mistreating her when she was living on the street. We are looking for a home where she can warm up slowly and feel safe. Yaya will need practice with slow intros and ideally a space where she doesn't have to meet people automatically at the door or in her territory. She is friendly with dogs, she is really good and she likes to play. I am looking for the right home for Yaya.
