About Reuben

Adoption Fee: $300
Lab mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Want a little Sunbeam by your side when you are working or hanging out? Meet Reuben, aka 'Sunbeam'. His foster mom calls him Sunbeam because he's always happy, warm and sweet - just like a sunbeam on a chilly day! He's super-cool, easy-going, and playful but not over the top. A long walk and some fetch or tug of war will wear his batteries down easily and then he's ready to lay down under his foster mom's desk and hang out while she works! While his foster mom doesn't know what breeds he has in him for sure, he looks like a maybe poodle/Lab/hound with maybe some Whippet (?). Whatever the breeds, this is a sweet, sweet little dude who just wants to chill and play! He's at 47 pounds right now and may grow a little more but will not be a very large dog. 'Sunbeam' is crate and house trained and walks well on a leash but could use more work there - he doesn't pull, just needs more time to become accustomed to heeling and taking walks vs. sniffing around. He learns quickly and is a sensitive dog, so only positive training techniques for this sweet guy. He is a quiet dog, only barking when he needs to go out or wants to play. He gets along very well with other dogs of all sizes and his foster mommy's cats. He shows interest in the cats but only wants to play; he does not chase them and will leave them alone if they don't engage in play. He loves to lay out on the deck in the sun and to run around in the house and back yard with the other dogs, male and female, large and small. His favorite toys are his stuffed monkey and tennis ball. Some things Reuben needs: A fenced back yard with a fur playmate would be ideal for this baby. He loves being outside too much to stay inside all day. He lives to be with his human and fur siblings, so would do best with someone who can spend a lot of time with him. A fur playmate would not be a requirement but due to Reubens' young age, would be a plus, to help him continue gaining doggy social skills. No apartments or condos for this pup as he loves the outside too much. Some areas for improvement: Reuben does nip a little if he gets super excited when playing, so young children would not be a good fit. He's learning not to do that but will require more training and reinforcement of that training as he matures. He does not resource guard anything with humans but does at times resource guard food and treats with other dogs. (He had a hard start in life so learned to protect his food. He just needs time and help in learning things have changed now.) He also has some separation anxiety that he and his foster mom are working on, but he does bark and howl for a little bit after she leaves the house. He will settle down and go to sleep in his crate after a bit now and he's learning she'll come back, so this is improving but is not resolved yet. It's a process for a pup like Reuben to learn to trust humans again but he's oh so willing to get there with the right forever person! DOB 06/17/2022 Meet Reuben! He's a 28 lb male Hound mix. As part of Reuben's $300 adoption fee, he is neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and current on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.
