About KeKoa

Adoption Fee: $50
German Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

KeKoa is a nine year old, 110 lb. male German Shepard whose beloved owner just passed away. The family, who lives out of state, made arrangements to have him euthanized as they could not keep him and needed an immediate solution. I live on the property next door and have known KeKoa since he was a pup so agreed to have ownership temporarily transferred to me and am fostering him until he can find a new home, He gets along wonderfully with other dogs, allows my Australian Shepard to herd him around and, also, plays with my property caretaker's cattle dog. He is completely housebroken, wants to please and instantly learned that my kitchen was off limited with a firm 'no.' He lays down when he's in the house and currently sleeps in the garage, using a doggie door to go outside. In the past, he slept in the the house next to his owner's bed and his other best friend was the 15 lb. poodle who shared his home (the family did take the poodle). He has not had a lot of training but is a very willing learner, loves to play tug, never bites or growls, will chase after balls, toys and sticks but hasn't learned to drop them when he returns them. He rides nicely in the car. He has one issue: as a pup he stated chewing on his tail and spinning to catch his tail in his mouth. His owner had part of his tail removed. He still spins when he gets excited, although, always where there is space and has not knocked over anything in my home including me. He likes to lick his tail but no longer chews. He doesn't chew on toys, which he shares, or furniture. I have him in a large fenced area when he's not inside my house but do not let him loose on my property as he will instantly go back 'home' and wait for his much loved person. I wish I could keep him, but spend time traveling and bring my dog with me. He doesn't fit in my small pickup or my tiny travel trailer or my caretaker's cottage. He would be a lovely, devoted companion who would sit with his head on your lap.
